The Parkland Food Bank Society set a new fundraising record during its annual Coldest Night of the Year winter walk on February 28, 2026, in Spruce Grove, Alberta. The community event successfully raised $88,517 to help provide food for local families in need throughout the year.
The walk took place at Columbus Park and featured 185 walkers across 35 different teams. Participants far exceeded the initial $70,000 goal by reaching 126 per cent of the target with the help of 43 volunteers and lead sponsor Armour Galvanizing Ltd.
This record-breaking total comes at a time of high demand for food assistance in the region. The society currently provides food to nearly 2,400 people every month, including 960 children who rely on these services for their daily meals.
Organized nationally by the BlueSea Foundation, the local event saw Team Awesomeness Century Estates-Gates, led by Noreen Lang-Bryant, finish as the top fundraising group. The money raised will support the ongoing distribution of food to residents across Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, and Parkland County.
