The unsettled weather is expected to continue through Tuesday, with rainfall totals between 30 and 50 mm possible, and local amounts exceeding 50 mm.
Rain and embedded thunderstorms are expected to end later this afternoon, but another round is possible in the afternoon. Environment Canada warns that water may pool on roads and in low-lying areas, and rainfall warnings may be required. As of 5:14 p.m., conditions at London International Airport showed mist, 24°C, 91% humidity, and a humidex of 34.
Tuesday will stay warm and humid. The forecast calls for cloudy skies becoming a mix of sun and cloud in the afternoon, with a 60% chance of showers and risk of a thunderstorm. The high is 29°C, with a humidex reaching 37.
The week will gradually improve. Precipitation chances drop to 30% by Thursday, and a mix of sun and cloud returns for Friday and Saturday with highs of 25 to 26°C.
This weather comes just weeks after a 250-year rainfall event hit nearby Southwold Township on August 7, triggering a municipal emergency. The Kettle Creek Conservation Authority, which monitors the watershed around St. Thomas, has warned that areas receiving heavy rain face heightened risk for flash and localized flooding.
