The election season has officially begun in Ste. Anne as the town prepares for its upcoming municipal vote on October 28, 2026. The Town of Ste. Anne has posted an official notice confirming that the first candidate has registered to run, marking the start of the process to elect the next mayor and council.
Current Mayor Yvan St. Vincent has already announced his intention to seek re-election. St. Vincent, who has served as mayor since 2022, said his primary goal is to oversee the ongoing effort to secure a regional designation for Hôpital Ste-Anne. He currently serves as a co-chair for a provincial working group focused on addressing staffing and service capacity at the facility.
The upcoming vote comes as the community navigates a period of significant growth that has consistently exceeded local expectations. This expansion has brought new demands for infrastructure and services, which are expected to be key topics for candidates throughout the campaign. Other major community projects influencing the election include the approved expansion of town boundaries and the development of a new regional high school, which is slated to open in September 2028.
Prospective candidates who wish to join the ballot can continue to register with the municipal office in the coming months. According to the town, the campaign period for mayoral candidates begins May 1, 2026, while the campaign period for council members opens June 30, 2026. All candidates must formally file their papers during the nomination period, which runs from September 16 to September 22, 2026.
