An immersive theatre adventure is coming back to Sylvan Lake this September with 30 local artists and three brand-new plays. The Sylvan Lake Theatre’s Theatre Trail, now in its fifth year, transforms downtown into a moving stage where audiences walk from one surprise performance to the next.
The two-hour journey starts at Memorial Presbyterian Church, the home base and box office, then leads groups of 16 through locations like Moon & Lotus, Tea Hippie, 2nd Wind Brewery & Eatery, and Cenotaph Park. Each group is guided by a storyteller who shares local history and tales between performances.
This year’s lineup includes three new plays: “Epiphany,” a mother-daughter story where one is a ghost; “Still Waters,” about family history and beer; and “Time is a Thief,” about an elderly mother and middle-aged daughter both grasping for more time while dealing with different priorities. Audiences can choose from start times at 1 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. on four afternoons.
The Theatre Trail has become a major draw, winning Best Summer Event in the Sylvan Lake News Reader’s Choice Awards for five straight years and earning Best Festival honours in 2026. It regularly sells out and brings visitors from across Alberta, Canada, and beyond.
