The Manitoba government is investing $65,000 to renovate the Arena 1 baseball diamond in The Pas, Manitoba. This funding, announced on February 26, 2026, is meant to make the field safer and more reliable for local athletes and families.
Work on the diamond will include fixing long-standing drainage issues that often left the field too wet for play. Workers will also regrade the infield and add new top-dressing material to the surface to make it smoother and safer for runners.
The project also involves building up the foundations of the dugouts and installing new dugout shelters to provide better cover for players. These updates will serve youth and families from the Town of The Pas, the Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and the Rural Municipality of Kelsey.
The money is being provided through a provincial grant program called From the Ground Up – Safe Healthy Communities for ALL. Mayor Andre Murphy said the town is pleased to receive the support, which helps the Kelsey Recreation department keep local sports facilities in good condition.
Minister of Municipal and Northern Relations Glen Simard said the project is part of a larger effort to modernize recreation in northern communities. This investment aims to ensure local children have a quality place to stay active and learn new skills.
