People in Waterloo Region who are homeless or don’t have stable housing can get free legal help at a drop-in clinic on July 16 in Cambridge.
The Waterloo Region Community Legal Services is hosting the clinic from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Multi-Agency Community Space, located at 150 Main St. There is no need to book an appointment.
The clinic is meant for people dealing with legal issues while facing homelessness or insecure housing. Staff can assist with matters like eviction support, Ontario Works, disability benefits, employment problems, and getting identification. The legal services group has been serving low-income residents since 1980 and is one of 76 clinics across Ontario funded by Legal Aid Ontario.
The Multi-Agency Community Space opened in 2020 and is now a key hub for people without shelter in Cambridge. It supports between 120 and 140 people living in encampments, and its harm reduction program connects with more than 800 people in the community. The space offers health care, mental health support, food access, and legal help under one roof, led by the AIDS Committee of Cambridge, Kitchener, Waterloo and Area.
This clinic comes at a time when homelessness in Waterloo Region continues to grow. As of February 2026, more than 1,400 people were experiencing homelessness, with three-quarters facing chronic homelessness. The affordable housing waitlist exceeds 10,000 households. The Region of Waterloo is updating its 10-year housing plan and has increased funding for housing and homelessness to over $265 million in 2026, up from $218 million last year.
The legal clinic is continuing its regular schedule, held on the third Thursday of each month at the Multi-Agency Community Space. Organizers say anyone with a legal issue and unstable housing should stop by.
