Boaters in Whitby, Ontario, can expect calm conditions on the water this week as the spring season settles in across Lake Ontario. According to Environment Canada, there are currently no weather watches or warnings in effect for the Great Lakes, and the seasonal strong wind warning program has officially concluded.
For Western Lake Ontario, the forecast calls for light winds and waves of only 0.5 metres. While there is a chance of scattered showers this evening, winds are expected to become light by Wednesday morning. Regional reports confirm the lake is ice-free, and conditions are anticipated to remain mild through the end of the week.
As the boating season approaches, the Port Whitby Marina is preparing for its peak operations. The municipal facility, which holds a Diamond Elite rating under the Boating Ontario Clean Marine Program, will begin its seasonal dockage and public boat launch services on May 1. The marina is currently open with daily operating hours from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Ongoing work at the harbour continues as part of the Whitby Harbour Remediation Project. While this project remains active, the harbour stays fully operational and accessible to mariners. Local authorities remind those heading out on the water that spring temperatures remain dangerously cold, and safety precautions should always be a priority.
