Boaters and visitors at the waterfront in Whitby, Ontario, should prepare for changing wind conditions on March 8, 2026. According to Environment Canada, winds are expected to shift directions and pick up speed throughout the day.
The marine forecast for Western Lake Ontario shows winds starting from the west at 20 knots. By this morning, they are expected to move to the southwest at 15 knots, before increasing back to 20 knots by this afternoon.
These shifting winds can create choppy water for those using the 420-slip Port Whitby Marina. While the area is not under a formal gale warning, the changing conditions may impact small boats and people spending time along the shoreline.
Experts from Environment Canada note that winds near the shore can be quite different from those further out on the lake because of how the land affects the air. People heading out on the water are encouraged to check local conditions before leaving the harbour.
