Train service on the GO Transit Stouffville line resumed on Monday, March 30, 2026, following a weekend of construction aimed at improving infrastructure for local commuters in Whitchurch-Stouffville and the Greater Toronto Area.
Crews used the weekend to perform necessary track work, which included removing old track panels and installing new ballast to help stabilize the rail line. This work is part of a larger, multi-year project by Metrolinx to transform the Stouffville line from a traditional rush-hour commuter service into a modern, all-day rapid transit network.
The Stouffville line spans 49.6 kilometres and serves 11 stations, stretching from Union Station in Toronto to the Old Elm GO Station in Whitchurch-Stouffville. Officials anticipate that once the full expansion is complete, ridership on the line will increase by more than 300 percent. Future service goals include running trains every 15 minutes or better between Union Station and Unionville, with service every 30 minutes reaching as far as Mount Joy and Old Elm.
To support this goal, work is currently underway to add a second set of tracks between the Kennedy and Unionville stations, which will allow for two-way service throughout the day.
