The Markham-Unionville Rotary Club launched a new initiative on March 1, 2026, to support clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) programs with a specific focus on the Whitchurch-Stouffville community. The effort aims to help local residents by introducing school hygiene programs, providing training, and hosting public talks on health and sanitation.
Kenneth Chin, the president of the club, says the group wants to bring people together to mobilize resources for water infrastructure and local partnerships. This work is part of a global Rotary effort to ensure that clean water and proper hygiene are treated as basic necessities for a healthy community.
The club already assists local organizations like the Markham-Stouffville Hospital and the Markham Fall Fair. This new outreach comes as the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville continues its own long-term Water and Wastewater Master Plan to manage municipal services through 2051.
Residents can get involved through fundraising, volunteer drives, or by attending upcoming sessions on water safety. The club meets in person on the first and third Tuesdays of every month at the Old Country Inn in Unionville to discuss these and other community projects.
