The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville has appointed Mike Doyle as the new Fire Chief for the local fire and emergency services department, effective June 17, 2026. Doyle, who currently serves as the town’s Deputy Fire Chief, will take over the role from outgoing Fire Chief Bill Snowball.
Doyle brings more than two decades of experience in fire and emergency services to his new position. He first joined the local department in January 2025 after previously serving as a Deputy Fire Chief for Vaughan Fire and Rescue Services. His professional background includes a Fire and Emergency Services diploma from Humber College, a certificate in Public Administration and Governance from Toronto Metropolitan University, and certification as an emergency management coordinator.
According to the town, the appointment is expected to provide leadership continuity for the local fire services, which currently include 44 career firefighters and 13 volunteer firefighters. The department operates across two stations, including the headquarters and the station in Ballantrae, organized into four platoons.
Chief Administrative Officer Sunny Bains highlighted that Doyle brings a clear vision for the continued growth and modernization of the department. Outgoing Chief Bill Snowball has led the local service since 2019, following a long career that included time as the fire chief in Markham. Following the transition in June, Doyle will continue to work alongside Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Wawryk to manage community safety operations.
