The City of Brockville formally adopted its 2026 municipal budget on Jan. 27, 2026, which includes more staff and better equipment for the fire department in Brockville, Ontario. The budget measures aim to improve emergency response times and safety for local residents by adding a new position and addressing communication gaps.
Under the new budget, the Brockville Fire Department will hire one new firefighter to start this fall. This is a step toward Fire Chief Melanie Jones’ goal of eventually having four firefighters on every truck across the city.
Currently, trucks responding to calls downtown have three firefighters on board, while trucks in the uptown area only have two. The extra staff member will help address this difference so the team can better handle emergencies in all parts of town.
Brockville City Council also approved funding to upgrade the department’s radio system. This project will fix “dead spots” in the city where firefighters have struggled to send or receive messages during emergencies.
These changes are intended to modernize the department and fix long-standing safety issues for the crew. By adding more help and better tools, the city is working to ensure firefighters have what they need to protect the community.
