Residents in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, can now support their local library by purchasing limited-edition clothing designed to fund a brand-new facility. The ongoing fundraiser features t-shirts and crewnecks with artwork created by local artist Mya McCarthy.
The Sylvan Lake Municipal Library is working with Geek Girl Apparel to sell the custom items. All money raised from the clothing sales will go directly toward the construction costs of a larger and more modern library building.
The library is looking to expand because Sylvan Lake is growing by about 3.5 per cent every year. The community is expected to reach a population of 40,000 people by 2045, which is more than the current building can handle.
The existing library was built in 2000 and renovated in 2014. By purchasing the local apparel, community members can help fund a new space that will serve the needs of the town as it continues to grow.
