Residents in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, are preparing for a shift in weather as snow and ice pellets turn into rain and high winds through Friday, March 13, 2026. According to Environment Canada, the wintry mix seen early Thursday morning will change to freezing rain and drizzle before becoming steady rain by the afternoon.
Fog patches are expected to develop late Thursday afternoon, which could make it difficult to see while driving. By Friday morning, southwest winds will reach 50 km/h, with gusts hitting 70 km/h in most areas and up to 90 km/h along exposed parts of the coast.
The weather will also bring a major swing in temperatures, reaching a high of 11 degrees on Friday before dropping quickly to 1 degree in the afternoon. By Friday night, the temperature is expected to hit a low of minus 7 degrees.
This sudden drop could cause standing water on roads and walkways to freeze over. Community members should watch for slippery surfaces and be ready for gusty conditions that may affect travel or outdoor plans throughout the end of the week.
