With heavy rain and melting snow expected in March 2026, officials are asking homeowners to clear their eavestroughs and make sure downspouts are pointing away from house foundations.
Environment Canada has issued warnings for heavy downpours and possible flooding across southern Ontario this month. These weather conditions increase the risk of water pooling around properties or leaking into basements.
Since 2017, the city has offered the Home Flood Protection Program to help residents find ways to lower their risk of basement flooding. Taking small actions now, like checking sump pumps and clearing debris from drainage areas, can help prevent expensive property damage.
