On March 14, 2026, a fatal shooting on Highway 2 near Leduc, Alberta, claimed the life of one person and led to a major road closure. The Leduc RCMP reported that the incident occurred around 2:50 p.m. near the intersection with Township Road 490.
Witnesses told investigators that a white or grey dirty pickup truck pulled up alongside a black 2012 Honda Civic. Shots were fired from the truck into the car before the pickup truck sped away. The highway was closed for several hours while officers investigated the scene, but the road has since been reopened to traffic.
The Alberta RCMP Majozr Crimes Unit has taken over the investigation into the death. Police are urgently asking anyone who was driving in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage or come forward if they saw either of the vehicles involved in the shooting.
