Homeowners in Milton, Ontario, will see their total property tax bills rise by about $39.22 for every $100,000 of home value in 2026. According to the Town of Milton, the new budget includes a 6.94 per cent increase to the local portion of the tax bill.
When the town’s increase is combined with the 4.59 per cent hike from Halton Region and steady school board rates, the overall tax bill grows by 4.75 per cent. For a home valued at $600,000, this means a total yearly tax bill of approximately $5,191.34.
The budget sets aside $125.8 million for 134 different local projects like road work, transit, and facility upgrades. About 71 per cent of these capital costs are covered by external funding sources—primarily development charges—rather than property taxes.
Mayor Gord Krantz supported the budget but noted that local taxes have gone up by 34.7 per cent during the current council’s four-year term. He mentioned he was “not proud” of the total increase but joined other leaders in approving the plan to keep up with the community’s growth.
While the first tax installment was due in late February 2026, the town finance department continues to provide free breakdowns of the budget for anyone who wants to see exactly how their money is being spent.
