Residents in Burlington, Ontario will join a province-wide protest on March 28, 2026, to voice their opposition to several provincial government policies. The local gathering is part of a larger movement called the Fight Ford protests, which are happening in more than 30 communities across the province this Saturday.
Burlington was recently added as a rally stop after residents organized through the local r/BurlingtonON community online. While the city was not on the original list of reported locations, it joins other nearby protests in Milton and Oakville scheduled for the same day.
Organizers say the protests are focused on many issues, including major changes to the Ontario Student Assistance Program. New provincial rules will cut the maximum grant portion of OSAP funding from 85 per cent to 25 per cent, meaning 75 per cent of assistance will now be provided as loans, a move that has already led to large student walkouts earlier this month.
The movement is also concerned about proposed changes to freedom of information laws that could make it harder for the public to see government records. Other local concerns include highway construction projects and decisions to allow development on the Greenbelt, as noted in local reporting.
The rallies are described as peaceful, family-friendly events and local police have been notified about the planned gatherings. Participants say they want to show the provincial government that residents are concerned about the current direction of healthcare, education, and the environment.
