The Grade 7 girls basketball team from Mount Pearl Intermediate has secured the Division B gold medal at the provincial championships held this past weekend in Newfoundland and Labrador. The victory marks a significant achievement for the young athletes and continues a local tradition of success in youth sports.
The tournament was organized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Basketball Association, which oversees minor and club basketball across the province. The association typically hosts these youth provincial competitions in late March, dividing teams into different skill categories to foster competitive play.
The Mount Pearl Intermediate team is part of a local athletic community supported by the Mount Pearl Minor Basketball Association. This organization has provided programming for children from Kindergarten through Grade 9 since 1997, utilizing facilities at several local schools, including Mount Pearl Intermediate.
Paul Lane, the Member of the House of Assembly for Mount Pearl-Southlands, shared the news of the team’s accomplishment. The win adds to Mount Pearl’s history of basketball success, which includes past provincial titles for other school-based teams in the area.
