The Brockville Police Service has officially charged the former chief executive officer of the Brockville Public Library with fraud over $5,000 and breach of trust. Geraldine Slark faces charges related to the alleged misuse of a corporate credit card for personal expenses exceeding $21,000 between 2023 and 2024.

The investigation began after the City of Brockville initiated an internal review of library finances in December 2024. Findings from that review were turned over to the Brockville Police Service in August 2025, following the launch of a formal police investigation in June 2025. Charges were formally laid on March 30, 2026.

Inspector Darryl Boyd of the Brockville Police Service stated that the time required to bring these charges was necessary to ensure a thorough and accurate review of sensitive financial records. According to police, none of the funds have been repaid at this time. Slark has been released from custody and is set to appear in court at a later date.

The City of Brockville has confirmed that while the legal matter is now before the courts, there is no impact on the current operations of the Brockville Public Library.
