The Town of Kensington will begin its annual water main and hydrant flushing program on April 15, 2026,, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain the local water distribution system. The maintenance work is essential for removing mineral deposits that accumulate in the town’s nine kilometres of underground piping over time. It will continue until approximately May 1, 2026.
Because the town’s water mains are sized to support adequate fire protection flows, water moves through the system at a lower rate, allowing these deposits to build up. The Town of Kensington Water and Pollution Control Corporation, which manages the local water and wastewater services, conducts this cleaning to ensure the continued flow and quality of water for the community.
During the flushing process, residents may notice temporary low water pressure or reddish discolouration in their taps. Officials emphasize that this water is not hazardous and remains safe to use. If residents encounter discoloured water, they are advised to run their cold water taps for a few minutes until the system clears.
The town encourages anyone with questions or concerns to contact Town Hall at 902-836-3781. For urgent water issues outside of regular business hours, residents may reach out to the emergency contact line at 902-439-5202.
