Drivers in Almonte should prepare for traffic changes this summer as construction begins on a project to add dedicated left-turn lanes at the intersection of Christian Street and Almonte Street.
The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is partnering with Lanark County on the $554,428 project. In addition to the new lanes, the work includes laying new asphalt and installing new traffic signals to help improve flow through the area. Orin Contractors Corporation has been brought on to complete the construction, which is expected to run from late May through October 2026.
During the construction, motorists should expect periodic lane reductions. Officials are asking drivers to pay close attention to posted signage and follow the directions of traffic control personnel to ensure safety for everyone on the road.
This intersection project is part of a broader $11.8 million capital construction program for the county this year. County road crews are also working on other infrastructure, including repairs to County Road 511 that begin April 15, 2026. That work will be handled by Thomas Cavanagh Construction Ltd. and will involve drainage improvements and repaving along a 3.4 km stretch.
These upgrades are part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the more than 560 km of roads overseen by Lanark County. Public works officials noted that while asphalt prices have seen significant fluctuations over the past three years, they are seeing more stability in costs for the 2026 construction season.
