Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for the Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne, Manitoba, on the morning of Friday, April 17, 2026. Residents are advised that icy conditions are creating hazardous travel during the morning commute.
The warning, which covers areas including Richer, was issued early Friday morning as a band of freezing rain moved across southeastern Manitoba. Data from the nearby Kleefeld weather station recorded temperatures at -3.1°C with a wind chill of -9 at 4:00 a.m. Officials warn that these conditions are expected to make local roads and walkways slippery, potentially causing significant delays for drivers.
According to The Weather Network, the freezing rain is expected to taper off by late morning. It will be replaced by light snow, with 2 to 4 centimetres of accumulation possible before the system moves out of the region. The high for the day is expected to reach -2°C, with wind chill values staying near -12.
The weather system, identified by CMOS Accredited Weathercaster Chris Sumner, originated as a low-pressure area in Montana. It has tracked across the northern United States, bringing mixed precipitation to communities along and south of the Trans-Canada Highway corridor. While today is seeing a return to winter-like conditions, the forecast shows a rapid shift ahead. Temperatures are expected to rise significantly early next week, reaching highs of 13°C by Monday, 18°C by Tuesday, and 24°C by Wednesday.
