Rocky View County Council approved its 2026 budget on April 14, 2026, which includes a 4.14% increase in municipal property tax revenue. This marks the first time the county has raised its municipal tax rate since 2023, following two years of holding rates steady.
The Rocky View County budget, which consists of a $280.4 million operating plan and a $62 million capital plan, focuses on core services and infrastructure. Specific investments include $10.6 million for road and bridge lifecycle repairs, $9.1 million for fire and emergency services, and $18.4 million for stormwater and utility infrastructure. These funds are intended to support growth while addressing the long-term maintenance of community assets.
Reeve Sunny Samra stated that the plan is designed to invest in the services and infrastructure residents rely on daily. According to the county, this approach balances the need to maintain quality services with planning for sustainable growth.
In addition to the county municipal tax, residents will see an increase in the education property tax collected on behalf of the Government of Alberta. This provincial portion is increasing by 17% for the 2026-27 period. The province has set the new education tax rates at $2.84 per $1,000 of equalized assessment for residential and farmland properties, and $4.17 per $1,000 for non-residential properties. This provincial increase will be reflected in total property tax bills for residents.
