The Brockville Police Service is investigating after threatening phone calls forced the evacuation of the Walmart on Parkedale Avenue on Sunday, April 26, 2026. No injuries were reported, and the store has since resumed normal operations.
The first threat was received at approximately 4:30 p.m., when an individual called the store claiming that explosive devices had been placed inside. Officers arrived at the scene and consulted with the Ontario Provincial Police Explosive Disposal Unit to assess the situation. The store was evacuated as a precaution while authorities performed a thorough sweep of the premises.
A second call, which police believe came from the same individual, occurred around 8:00 p.m. and contained a threat of a shooting at the location. This prompted a second evacuation. Following this incident, the store decided to close for the remainder of the day. Staff were able to finish their end-of-day procedures under the supervision of police officers before leaving the building safely.
Police confirmed that no weapons or explosive devices were found during their searches of the store. While there have been similar reports regarding Walmart locations in other jurisdictions across Canada and the United States, local police have not yet determined if these incidents are connected.
