Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry has officially announced she will seek re-election in the upcoming municipal vote on October 26, 2026. Lowry, who is currently serving her second term, picked up her nomination papers from the Municipal Clerk’s Office during the final week of April, marking the start of her campaign to remain in the mayor’s chair.
The nomination period for the municipal election opened on May 1, 2026, and will remain open until August 21, 2026. In a statement regarding her decision, Lowry described the process of picking up her nomination package as a reminder of the responsibility that comes with serving the community. Lowry has committed to keeping Mississippi Mills strong and vibrant should she be re-elected for another term.
First elected as mayor in 2018, Lowry previously served as a Ramsay Ward Councillor from 2014 to 2018. During her time in office, she also served as Lanark County Warden after being elected to that role in 2021. In her campaign announcement, she emphasized an inclusive vision for the town, noting that her platform aims to represent all residents, from rural farmers and tradespeople to new neighbours and families with long histories in the area. The mayoral race is expected to be competitive.
