The Town of Sylvan Lake has finalized its 2026 property tax rates, maintaining a zero percent municipal tax increase for the second year in a row, following a council meeting on April 27, 2026.
While the municipal portion of the tax rate remains unchanged, residents may still see shifts in their total property tax bills. This is due to a 7.5 percent increase in the average single-family home assessment, which is now valued at 448,282 dollars. Additionally, the provincial education tax collected through local property bills has risen by 18.2 percent, moving from 8.24 million dollars in 2025 to 9.74 million dollars for 2026.
Town council has asked administration to prepare an information report regarding the potential for a minimum property tax rate before budget discussions begin for 2027. During the same meeting, council approved the 2025 Audited Financial Statements as presented by RSM Canada LLP.
Residents can expect to receive their combined assessment and tax notices by mail starting May 22, 2026. All property tax payments are due by July 31, 2026, to avoid penalties.
