Gardeners in Mississippi Mills will have a new way to prepare for the growing season this year thanks to an expanded partnership at the Mississippi Mills Public Library. Starting May 21, 2026, the library will offer free vegetable seedlings, native wildflowers, and herbs to the community at the Pakenham Branch.
The new plants are being provided through a partnership with the Pakenham Seedling Library. The items will be available at the branch located at 128 MacFarlane St. on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.
This initiative builds upon the library’s existing Seed Library program, which has been operating since 2015. The program allows residents to access various seeds during the spring months and has become a staple of local gardening efforts, with approximately 2,500 packages distributed to the community in 2023 alone.
Library Assistant Melanie Girdwood-Brunton oversees the seed library program across both the Pakenham and Almonte branches. Residents with questions regarding the program can reach out for more information as they look to get their gardens started this season.
