Families in Sylvan Lake can now register for school bus transportation for the 2026-2027 school year through the Chinook’s Edge School Division. Partially funded students who complete their registration by May 31, 2026, will qualify for a $50 early registration discount on their annual fees.
The division offers partially funded transportation to students who meet distance requirements set by Alberta Education. Kindergarten to grade six students living 1.6 km or more from their designated school qualify, as do students in grades 7-12 living 2 km or more from their school. For those eligible, the early registration discount reduces the annual fee from $250 to $200. Kindergarten students benefit from a reduced fee of $100 if registered by the deadline.
In addition to the discount, partially funded families who register by May 31 are automatically entered into a draw for a chance to have their transportation fees for the year waived entirely for all registered partially funded students in their household. To participate, families must complete their registration through their SchoolEngage account linked to PowerSchool. Registration is only considered complete once a $20 per student application fee is paid.
The division encourages early registration to help the transportation department design efficient bus routes. Officials note that late submissions make it difficult to plan, which can lead to route changes and delays for families. Those who register after June 30, 2026, will be charged an additional $50 late registration fee, though exceptions are available for families who move into the division after that date.
The Chinook’s Edge School Division serves students across several Sylvan Lake schools, including Beacon Hill Elementary School, C. P. Blakely Elementary School, École Fox Run School, École H. J. Cody High School, and École Steffie Woima Elementary School. Families with questions can contact the transportation department at 403-227-7072 or by email at [email protected].
