The Town of Three Rivers council has moved forward with several new projects to support community services and local infrastructure following their meeting on May 11, 2026. The decisions include the creation of two new staff positions at a local theatre, new street lighting, and a new home for a community meal service.
Council approved the hiring of an Arts and Culture Coordinator and an Artistic Director for the Kings Playhouse in Georgetown. These roles are intended to support the venue’s ongoing growth and expand cultural programming for residents in eastern Prince Edward Island.
In Montague, residents will see improvements to street lighting along Main Street. Council has awarded a contract to Hansen’s Electric to install 18 new light fixtures as part of a streetscape improvement project.
The historic Cardigan Train Station has also been designated for a new use, with council approving a lease agreement with Meals on Wheels PEI Inc. The non-profit organization, which expanded its services to the Georgetown and Cardigan areas in 2024, will utilize the facility to support its meal delivery operations.
These initiatives come as the town reports a strong financial position for the 2026 fiscal year. The municipality is currently $668,424 ahead of its expected operating budget, a result of higher-than-anticipated property tax revenue and lower spending across town departments.
