The Bay Roberts Public Library is marking 80 years of service to the community with a public celebration. Residents are invited to join the milestone event on May 23, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the library, located at 76 Cross Road in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador.
Established in 1946, the library was created during a period of growth for public services across the province following the Second World War. At that time, local residents canvassed for funds to secure and renovate a building, with the Provincial Board paying 50 percent of the cost to help launch the facility. The library has served the community through eight decades, evolving alongside the town which was later incorporated in 1951 through the union of five local communities.
The library operates today as part of Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries, a system overseen by the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board. While it has maintained a consistent presence, the facility has adapted to changing times through various technical upgrades, including moving to the Horizon automation system in 2005.
