The eighth annual Songs, Stages and Seafood Festival in Bay Roberts, Newfoundland, will host the Newfoundland Fishcake Championship on Sunday, May 24, 2026. The event, presented by Powell’s Supermarket, takes place at 1:00 p.m. at the Bay Arena.
Eight local chefs are set to compete for the championship title, including Lacey Coffin, Clinton Brewer, Stephen Pynn, Brian Piercey, Chris Mercer, Colin Leigh, Hilarie Vatcher, and Roary MacPherson. Coffin, who won the 2025 competition, returns this year to defend her title against the field of challengers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to sample up to 10 different versions of the traditional Newfoundland dish, which typically features salt cod and potatoes. Guests are encouraged to cast their votes to help determine the winner, who will be awarded the Songs, Stages and Seafood Championship Belt. The afternoon will also include live musical entertainment by the traditional trio Blind Drunk.
Tickets for the event are $32.69 per person, which includes fees. According to the Town of Bay Roberts, the festival has seen consistent growth in attendance, drawing visitors from across Canada and internationally to the community.
