Stonewall RCMP caught a driver travelling nearly double the speed limit on the Perimeter Highway near Highway 6 on May 8, 2026. The 32-year-old male from the Rural Municipality of Headingley was clocked at 155 km/h in an 80 km/h zone, with officers observing him weaving through traffic before initiating a stop at approximately 5:50 p.m.
Following the stop, the driver admitted to drug use and tested positive for cocaine on an Approved Drug Screening Equipment (ADSE) screen. Officers also discovered drug paraphernalia on the driver’s person during the encounter.
As a result, the driver received a 72-hour immediate roadside licence suspension, a serious offence notice, and fines exceeding $1,500 for speeding and the unlawful transportation of liquor and cannabis. According to Manitoba Public Insurance, failing a drug screening test results in an immediate tiered administrative licence suspension, which can range from 72 hours up to 60 days based on a driver’s history.
The RCMP identifies road safety as a key priority, focusing efforts on reducing traffic-related and impaired-related injuries and fatalities across the province. The Stonewall RCMP detachment, which serves both the town of Stonewall and the Rural Municipality of Headingley, continues to conduct increased traffic enforcement operations along major routes to address dangerous driving behaviours.
