The Town of Bay Roberts tourism team recently promoted local attractions and the town’s upcoming event calendar at the final Downhome Expo. The event, which took place May 8-10, 2026, at The Glacier Arena in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, served as the last edition of what has been known as the province’s largest tradeshow and marketplace.
After 12 years of operation, Downhome Incorporated decided to retire the expo. Grant Young, president of the organization, noted that the decision followed shifts in societal habits since the COVID-19 pandemic. The town’s presence at the event allowed staff to connect with visitors and share details about the community’s tourism offerings before the end of the expo’s run.
Bay Roberts continues to prioritize tourism through its 2026 budget, which includes an investment of $912,407 for economic development and tourism. These efforts are overseen by the Economic Development, Tourism and Enhancement committee, with Councillor Frank Deering serving as the council liaison.
Residents and visitors looking for information on local activities can visit Lois Dawe, the tourism officer at the Bay Roberts Visitor Information Centre. The town’s summer schedule features several events, including the Songs, Stages and Seafood Festival from May 22-24, the Newfoundland Tulip Festival on June 6-7, and Light The Lamp on June 20-21. The community also hosts Free Concerts in the Park from July 4 to August 29 and Toutons events from July 5 to September 20.
