Residents in Gimli, Manitoba, are invited to observe World Environment Day on June 5, 2026, through a special evening of community engagement and film at the Waterfront Centre. The event, hosted by the Gimli International Film Festival and the Westshore Community Foundation Inc., aims to connect locals with regional climate advocates while supporting local environmental initiatives.
The evening begins at 5:30 PM in Johnson Hall with a Climate Conversation Workshop presented in partnership with Climate West and Manitoba Climate Action and Innovation. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in discussions about climate action, and refreshments including pizza will be provided for those in attendance.
Following the workshop, the event moves to the Lady of the Lake Theatre at 7:30 PM for a screening of the acclaimed 2018 documentary Youth Unstoppable. Directed by Slater Jewell-Kemker, the film chronicles 12 years of the global youth climate movement, highlighting the efforts of young activists from around the world to influence environmental policy.
Admission for the event is pay-what-you-can, with all proceeds going to the Westshore Environmental Fund. The organizers note that tax receipts will be issued for any donations over $10. Those interested in attending can RSVP by emailing [email protected] or by calling 204-642-9796. World Environment Day, which has been held annually since 1973, serves as a global platform for environmental awareness and community outreach.
