Milton Transit riders who buy fares using the Token Transit mobile app will need to find another way to pay starting June 16, 2026, according to a notice from the Town of Milton. The Town is alerting customers that in-app fare purchases will no longer be available after that date, though any fares already bought will still be accepted.
The app was launched on September 21, 2020 as a contactless and cashless option for riders. It allowed people to buy and activate passes and tickets right from their smartphones. Token Transit is a third-party provider used by over 200 transit agencies across North America.
According to the Town of Milton, this change is part of a bigger shift in its transit payment system. The town’s Five-Year Service Plan recommends adopting PRESTO fare payment by early 2028, which would connect Milton Transit with the wider Ontario transit payment network. Currently, Milton Transit does not take PRESTO cards.
Riders who have been using the app should switch to other payment methods before June 16. Options include paying the exact cash fare of $4.25 when boarding, buying 10-ride ticket books, or getting monthly passes. Monthly passes cost $97 for adults, $73 for youth, and $62 for seniors, as of January 2026. Tickets and passes can be bought in person from ticket agents at five locations: Milton Leisure Centre, Milton Seniors’ Activity Centre, Milton Sports Centre, Sherwood Community Centre, and Town Hall.
The town says any fare bought through the app before June 16 will be honoured after the app is no longer available for purchases. Riders with questions can call Milton Transit at 905-864-4141.
