The Rimbey Fish and Game Association is getting ready to host its annual Canada Day celebration on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Open Creek Dam Campground, about 32 kilometres west of Rimbey on Highway 53.
Last year, more than 100 people came out for a pancake breakfast and an evening fireworks show. Organizers expect a similar community gathering this year, with more details to be announced soon.
“We are looking forward to another great Canada Day Event this year on Sat. July 4, 2026. Watch soon for more details to follow,” the association posted on its events page.
The annual event is put together by the campground tenders, a group of volunteers who have been running the celebration year after year. The association expressed thanks to them for “hosting such a great event year after year.”
The Rimbey Fish and Game Association is a non-profit group with about 100 members. It is affiliated with the Alberta Wildlife Federation, the province’s oldest and largest conservation organization. The group manages Open Creek Dam Campground, which it leases from Clearwater County and operates from May through September.
Just a week before the Canada Day fun, the association is holding a Youth Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at the South Day Use Area. Registration runs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., with fishing from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Open Creek Reservoir was built by the association in 1962 to give Rimbey residents a place to enjoy the outdoors, and today the campground offers campsites, boat launches, hiking trails, and wildlife viewing.
Residents are encouraged to watch for updates on the July 4 event in the coming weeks.
