A new artisan market is opening in Kensington today, June 15, 2026, at 62 Broadway Street North along the Confederation Trail. The Kensington Artisan Market will feature handmade work from a dozen Prince Edward Island artisans and run as a seasonal marketplace through mid-September.
The market offers a new place for residents and tourists to connect directly with local makers. One confirmed vendor is Finkle Pottery, operated by Lisa Finkle, an Island potter who has been creating stoneware since 2015. Her work, including mugs and butter keepers, is fired at over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit and draws from PEI’s natural landscapes.
“Unique handmade artwork created by 12 Prince Edward Island artisans” is how organizers describe the market on their Facebook page. Other vendors will offer items such as textiles, woodwork, and jewellery, though full vendor names were not immediately available. The PEI Crafts Council, which represents over 100 professional artisans across the province, has helped foster the growing interest in locally made goods.
The location along the Confederation Trail is key. The trail spans 449 kilometres across PEI on a decommissioned railway line, drawing cyclists and pedestrians through Kensington. The town, known as “The Heart of Prince Edward Island,” sees heavy summer traffic with an estimated 800,000 vehicles passing through its main intersection each tourist season. The market will operate through mid-September, catching the busiest months for visitors.
For Lisa Finkle and other artisans, the market means another way to reach customers beyond online sales and pop-up events. The market reflects a broader push across PEI to support small-scale creators and keep spending local.
