Milton residents will not be able to search the library catalog, check their accounts, or manage holds on July 1, 2026, while the Milton Public Library completes a system upgrade. Online resources and the library website will remain available, and all three branches will stay open as usual.
The outage affects only the catalog, My Account, and Holds services. People can still use digital resources like ebooks and streaming, and visit any branch to pick up items, use computers, or attend programs. Library staff will be on hand to help with in-person services.
This upgrade follows a larger system transition earlier in 2026 that added text notifications, a new mobile app, and better search tools. The library serves one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities, where visits are set to top pre-pandemic numbers by more than 200,000 this year. Milton’s population is expected to reach over 400,000 by 2051, and the library’s 2025-2029 Strategic Master Plan guides how services will keep pace with that growth.
Branches are located at 1010 Main Street East, 945 Fourth Line, and 6355 Main Street West. With over 150,000 physical books, CDs, and movies and millions of digital ones, the library is a key resource for residents. The July 1 upgrade is another step in keeping those services reliable as demand rises.
Anyone with questions can check the library website or visit a branch during regular hours.
