The Kensington and Area Chamber of Commerce has refreshed its guiding principles, introducing a new vision and mission statement alongside an updated strategic plan for 2026. The changes put a renewed emphasis on training local businesses and pushing for policies that help them grow, as the town itself continues to expand rapidly.
The Chamber’s new vision, “To Strengthen Business. Amplify Voices. Grow Together,” signals a more hands-on role for the organization. The updated mission now explicitly includes training as a core offering and stresses advocacy for pro-business policies, alongside networking opportunities and other benefits for its roughly 130 member businesses.
The 2026 strategic plan, created by the Chamber’s Board of Directors this spring, replaces a previous plan that dated back to 2022. According to the Chamber, the new plan is designed to keep the vision and mission at the forefront of its work, reflecting the shifting needs of Kensington’s business community.
Kensington has seen notable growth in recent years, with the population nearly doubling from about 1,300 in 2009 to a projected 2,400 by 2024, and it is expected to reach 3,000 by 2030. That growth brings both opportunities and demands for local enterprises, making the Chamber’s updated direction particularly timely.
The Kensington and Area Chamber of Commerce, originally founded in 1961 as the Kensington Area Board of Trade, operates as a non-profit from Kensington Town Hall. It remains actively involved in province-wide efforts like the Shop Local PEI campaign and the Prince Edward Island Business Economic Council, connecting local priorities to broader economic conversations across the Island.
