Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, is in for a taste of summer this week as foggy conditions give way to sunshine and warmer temperatures, according to Environment Canada. After a drizzly and foggy start to Monday, skies are expected to clear by noon, setting the stage for a notable warm-up on Tuesday.
Monday’s high will reach around 9°C along the coast and up to 13°C inland, with fog patches dissipating by midday. A north wind at 20 km/h will become light in the afternoon, and the UV index will hit 6, which is considered high. Overnight, temperatures will dip to a low of 5°C under clear skies.
Tuesday marks the highlight of the week, with Environment Canada forecasting sunny skies and temperatures climbing to 20°C in inland areas. Coastal spots will stay cooler at about 15°C. Fog patches are expected to clear in the morning, and a southwest wind at 20 km/h will pick up. The UV index will rise to 7, also high, so residents heading outdoors should wear sunscreen.
The warm spell will be brief. Showers return on Wednesday and Thursday, with highs dropping to 13°C and 12°C respectively. The weekend outlook improves, bringing a mix of sun and cloud and highs between 15°C and 18°C, closer to the seasonal norm of 18°C for late June.
Mount Pearl’s typical June weather often includes lingering fog, sometimes called capelin weather, which can blanket the area for days. This week’s clearing and Tuesday’s above-normal warmth offer a welcome break for outdoor plans before showers return mid-week.
