The Royal Canadian Legion in Vermilion is opening its doors Wednesday morning for a community pancake breakfast. The event runs from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM at the Legion hall on Railway Avenue.
It is a chance for residents to drop in, enjoy a hot meal, and visit with neighbours while supporting the Legion’s year-round work for veterans and the community. The breakfast is listed on the Town of Vermilion community calendar as a community-led event.
The Royal Canadian Legion is Canada’s largest veteran support organization, and 2026 marks its 100th anniversary. The Legion helps veterans navigate disability claims with Veterans Affairs Canada, offers mental health resources, and runs the familiar poppy campaign each fall. Events like the pancake breakfast help keep those services going strong.
The Vermilion branch, known as Branch 11, has been part of the town for nearly a century. In 1930, the branch raised the Vermilion Cenotaph to honour local soldiers who died in the First World War. That cenotaph still stands as a gathering place for remembrance each year.
