People who want to help run local schools can now put their names forward. The Evergreen School Division has opened candidate registration for the school board trustee election on October 28, 2026. Anyone interested has until September 22 to sign up.
Hopeful candidates must register with Senior Election Official Deb Thorsteinson at the division office, 140 Centre Avenue West, before they can collect donations or spend money on a campaign. Registration is open during regular business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
Seven trustee spots are up for grabs. Ward 1 will fill two seats, Ward 2 fills three, and Ward 3 fills two. The Ward 3 seat has been empty, so voters there will choose someone new. The current board has six trustees: Sandra Davies and Penny Helgason in Ward 1; Dianna Auer, Gladys Kohler, and Jillian Yorga in Ward 2; and Amanda Mosher in Ward 3.
To vote, people must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old by election day, and have lived in a school division ward for six months before October 28. The division serves about eight schools in Gimli, Winnipeg Beach, Arborg, and Riverton.
The election notice is posted on the division’s 2026 Trustee Elections page. Residents can expect to hear more about who is running as the September deadline approaches.
