Amherstburg Town Council gave the go-ahead to four community events at its June 23, 2026 meeting, setting the stage for a summer and fall packed with local traditions. The approved gatherings include the Bob Meloche Kids Fishing Derby, an Art Crawl, the Gone Car Crazy car show, and the Super Santa Run/Walk/Wheel.
Council also approved a road closure for the car show and a fee waiver for the Santa event, according to a council brief from the town. The Special Events Resource Team has been told to make sure all event requirements are met before each one takes place.
The Bob Meloche Kids Fishing Derby is run by the AMA Sportsmen’s Association and typically happens in June at Kings Navy Yard Park. The Art Crawl, organized by the Art Amherstburg Society, is set for July 11 and 12, bringing artists and activities to downtown streets.
The 19th annual Amherstburg’s Gone Car Crazy car show will run Sunday, July 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. It started in 2006 and is one of the town’s longest-running events. Later in the year, the Super Santa Run/Walk/Wheel, put on by the Essex Region Conservation Authority, returns in November to kick off the River Lights Winter Festival.
During the meeting, Councillor Molly Allaire declared a conflict of interest on the Super Santa item because she helps organize it, and she did not take part in the vote. Councillor Peter Courtney made the motion to approve all four events.
