Residents of St. Thomas, Ontario, can expect a mild and somewhat sticky week before the weather clears up for the weekend, according to Environment Canada. The forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies and occasional showers through Thursday, with temperatures climbing toward the high 20s.
Monday afternoon began mostly cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers and a risk of a thunderstorm. The high for the day was expected to reach 24°C, but the humidex made it feel closer to 31°C. Environment Canada has not issued any weather alerts for the region.
Tuesday will stay mainly cloudy with a high of 28°C, but the humidex is expected to hit 36°C, making it the muggiest day of the week. Wednesday brings a break in the clouds with sunny skies and a high of 29°C. Thursday will see a 30 per cent chance of showers before the pattern finally shifts.
By Saturday, sunshine returns with a high of 27°C, and Sunday brings a mix of sun and cloud, also with a high of 27°C. The temperatures are close to normal for early July, when St. Thomas typically sees a maximum of 26°C and a minimum of 16°C. Sunrise is at 5:53 a.m. and sunset at 9:06 p.m., giving residents long days to enjoy once the skies clear.
Looking beyond this week, senior Environment Canada climatologist David Phillips expects a warmer than normal summer for southwestern Ontario, with more days above 30°C than usual. The Weather Network’s summer forecast also suggests a changeable season with frequent showers and thunderstorms, though not a washout.
