Vermilion residents have a chance to tell the town how they want their tax dollars spent, as the Town of Vermilion has opened its 2027 Budget Survey. The survey, which asks for feedback on town priorities for the coming year, is available online or in paper form at the Town Office and runs until July 31, 2026.
The annual survey is part of the town’s effort to hear from the community before council makes its spending decisions. Last November, the council approved the 2026 budget with a 2.99 percent tax increase and also accepted operating plans for 2027 through 2029 in principle. This year’s input will help shape what gets funded when the 2027 budget is finalized.
Mayor Robert Snow, who was elected in October 2025 after four years as a town councillor, has stressed the importance of listening to residents. The survey is a direct way for people to weigh in on services and priorities before the council begins its budget discussions.
Paper copies of the survey can be picked up at the Town Office at 5021-49 Avenue in Vermilion. Residents can also fill it out on the town’s website. The town aims to gather views on everything from roads and recreation to public safety and debt management. As of 2025, the town’s debt was $9.6 million against a limit of $22.8 million, leaving room for new projects if residents support them.
The six councillors, who include newcomers with backgrounds in banking, firefighting, and agriculture, will use the survey results along with staff recommendations to set the 2027 budget. The survey closes July 31, 2026, giving residents just over three weeks to share their views.
