The Rimbey Lions Club is inviting everyone in town to celebrate its 80th anniversary with a free family swim this weekend. The swim takes place Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Baytex Aquatic Centre at 5120 53 Avenue in Rimbey, Alberta.
The Lions have been part of the community since May 5, 1946, and are marking the milestone with a series of sponsored family swims this summer. All ages are welcome, though children under 8 years old must keep within arm’s reach of someone 16 or older.
The Baytex Aquatic Centre is Rimbey’s outdoor pool, open seasonally from late May to September. It was completed in 2011 and is operated by the Town of Rimbey.
“We started here in Rimbey in 1946, on May 5,” said past president and current treasurer Ted Jamieson, a 55-year Lions member. Roy Keessar, now serving his sixth term as president after 13 years with the club, said the free swims are a way of thanking the town for its long-standing support.
The 80th anniversary comes during a busy weekend that also includes the 59th annual Rimbey Rodeo from July 10 to 12, and the Rimbey Parade on July 11. With swims also planned on June 14 and August 9, the Lions are making it easy for families to cool off and connect.
