Rimbey is in for a warm and mostly sunny week with highs reaching into the upper 20s, according to Environment Canada.
Environment Canada shows daytime temperatures climbing to 24°C on Monday and up to 29°C by Thursday. The normal high for mid-July in the area is around 21°C. Monday brings a mix of sun and cloud with a 30 percent chance of showers late in the afternoon and a risk of a thunderstorm before skies clear overnight.
Tuesday will start sunny before clouds roll in during the afternoon, again with a 30 percent chance of showers and a possible thunderstorm. Conditions are expected to clear by evening, setting up a dry stretch through Thursday.
The UV index will reach 6 or 7 this week, which is considered high. Residents are advised to wear a hat, tight-woven clothing, and to apply sunscreen on any exposed skin during peak sun hours. More sun safety tips are available on the Government of Canada website.
There are currently no weather alerts in effect for Rimbey or the surrounding Ponoka County. The warm and dry conditions follow an active start to Alberta’s wildfire season, with southern parts of the province having been under very high to extreme fire danger as of May. The province has hired more than 550 firefighters this year and introduced a mutual aid program to speed up local responses.
