Drivers, cyclists, and walkers in Milton, Ontario, will soon see new safety measures on local roads as the town starts installing speed cushions and raised crosswalks at 27 locations this month.
According to a construction notice from the Town of Milton, the project begins in July 2026 and is expected to wrap up by August 2026. The goal is to slow down traffic and make streets safer for everyone, especially near schools and in residential areas.
The work will touch several well-used streets, including Woodward Avenue from Ontario Street to Thompson Road, Etheridge Avenue between Chretien Street and Farmstead Drive, and Bennet Boulevard from Hepburn Road to Lees Gate. Other spots include Farmstead Drive at Duignan Crescent, Savoline Boulevard at Nunn Court, Scott Boulevard at both Athlone Drive and Baylis Court, and Dixon Drive at Hatton Crossing, Sprucedale Lane, and Cobban Road. No full road closures are planned, but drivers should expect localized lane closures. One lane of traffic will stay open at all times, though you might face minor delays. The town asks everyone to be patient and watch for changed road conditions through August.
This round of work is part of a four-year plan to bring 40 km/h neighbourhoods and raised crosswalks to Milton, a move approved by town council in June 2024. The speed cushions are built so that bigger vehicles like fire trucks and buses can pass over them without trouble, while smaller cars and trucks have to slow down. That makes them a good fit for collector roads used by emergency services.
The town has set aside about $76,000 this year specifically for signs and raised crosswalks, which is part of a roughly $350,000 four-year program. “The Town of Milton is building a complete community and investing over $57 million in roads, bridges and stormwater infrastructure in 2026,” officials said, highlighting how the traffic calming fits into a broader push for safer streets.
