Leduc residents will need their umbrellas and patience this morning as a rainy start gives way to a risk of thunderstorms and then widespread smoke settling in by evening.
According to Environment Canada, the forecast for Monday, July 20, 2026 calls for showers through the morning with an 80 percent chance of rain and a risk of thunderstorms. Up to 5 mm of rain is expected before skies clear around noon. Wind will pick up from the north at 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h near midday.
Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 24 degrees Celsius, though it will feel more like 28 with the humidity. At the Edmonton International Airport observation station at 9:07 a.m., conditions were already showing light rain, 16 degrees, and 99 percent humidity.
The wet start is part of an unusually rainy summer for the area. Alberta has seen record-setting rainfall this year, with Edmonton recording 264 mm in June alone, smashing the previous record of 216 mm set in 1914. An early June storm caused about $80 million in insurance claims in the Edmonton area.
By this afternoon, widespread wildfire smoke is forecast to drift into the Leduc area, creating hazy conditions. The smoke is expected to linger overnight as temperatures drop to 12 degrees. Tuesday will remain mainly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms, along with widespread smoke and a high of 25 degrees. Clearing is expected Tuesday night with a low of 12 degrees.
The rest of the week looks much brighter, with sunny skies and climbing temperatures reaching 28 degrees by Wednesday and 32 degrees by Thursday. Overnight lows will stay comfortable near 14 degrees, giving residents a break from the recent wet and smoky stretch.
